Something I doubt you’ll ever see again in high government was the agreement (unwritten?) about keeping the degree of FDR’s debilitation hidden from general public view.

well ,, in actuality, part of that was for moral purposes during WW2. Same with Kennedy with respect to the USSR at the time.
I believe that if we were at this time in a worldwide conflict and our CiC had some sort of dibilitating illness ‘we” would do the same thing that was done in the 40’s and early 60’s
