I think this remains to be seen. The fact that the race has tightened as much as it has tells me his tactics may be more effective at pleasing his base that was already voting for him anyway than motivating the general electorate.

Given how polarized the electorate is, that may be a viable strategy. It’s more a matter of getting your votes out, rather than persuading people.
