OK, in case there are any of you left who doubt that England is completely and utterly ruined as a nation, this should dispel those doubts permanently:

This makes good sense, as the article indicates that the rescuers probably had no skills in swimming or life saving, and the only thing that would have been accomplished would probably be the death of more men.
