Well when Cruz calls his father a mentor and when Rand Paul made his bones by campaigning for his father for president, I think it is fair game. I understand your point but Cruz/Paul are different animals than your usual presidential candidate fathers and frankly their views mirror their kooky fathers too.

Bush the Lesser made a point of distancing himself from *his* father (“no, I don’t ask him for advice. I ask another father”) — and he didn’t even have anything to be embarassed about. On both foreign policy and economics, he wanted us all to know he’d be different than his dad.

Neither Cruz nor Paul are willing to make that separation.
