re: #136 Love-Child of Cassandra and Sisyphus
If we assume that Putin is not crazy (as in psychotic), but is merely delusional about his place in history and the glory of the Russian people, what can we expect going forward?
I see no reason for Putin to stop. The Russian military can just dig in. They don’t need to go any farther right now.
“Liberating” the eastern portions of Ukraine from “nazis” is enough to celebrate and keep up his propaganda effort aimed at his own people.
If Russia keeps the territory they now
occupyliberated, what will happen in the coming months or years?Do you think the nations of the world will keep up a boycott over that much time?
Many nations need to trade with Russia, if for nothing else than for fossil fuel products.
What if Putin can cling on expecting many nations to simply tire of the issue.
Americans certainly will. Come the election in the fall I suspect that the Ukraine will not be a campaign issue, if the war simply drags on in some sort of stasis.
I certainly hope you are wrong in your pessimism.
Sanctions on Russia need to be kept in place until every inch of Ukraine is free, the war criminals are extradited for their crimes, free and fair elections are held in Russia, and an independent media are allowed to cover them.
