re: #147 Shimshon

Some people are just aboard a hype train, and they get a sense of superiority by still holding onto the Sanders Express. They can thumb their noses at everyone, Democrats, Republicans, by thinking of themselves as superior. They don’t care what happens if Trump gets elected because they live privileged lives and can only care about policies that might hurt them, not someone they don’t know.

Hmmm … I associate such a lack of empathy for others with conservatism or libertarianism, not progressivism or liberalism. Your mileage may vary, but I have not run into many exceptions to that.

re: #148 goddamnedfrank

Few Busters are talking about voting for Trump per se, but voting for Stein, Johnson, or writing in Sanders. All those options have almost the same effect though since Hillary is the only candidate with a mathematical chance at defeating Trump. Therefore voting for anybody but her is to condone the overt threat Trump poses to the minority populations his campaign revolves around persecuting. Any set of principles says that is equivalent to whatever supposed “evil” Hillary represents are clearly insane ones, fundamentally grounded in a depraved indifference to a psychopath who is loudly & proudly promising to create human suffering on a vast scale.

Jill Stein hangs out with Russian oligarch racists, she even has it up on her Website.

As for Dr. Stein, she only appears on the ballots of twenty or so states. The Libertarians appear on all of them, but voting for the Libertarian Party is no more support of any of Senator Sanders’s positions than voting for Donald Trump. (Plus, the Libertarians are into a kinder, gentler racism.)

As I noted in the discussion yesterday about “no true progressives,” my wife the former Libertarian Party member took a look at the article being discussed and said, “Yup, that guy is no progressive.”

It matters what you do, not what you say. Even as an atheist I am somewhat familiar with the rather famous line in the Book of James (that Gospel evangelicals are always thumping): Faith without works is dead.

Likewise, principles without action is also dead.
