I wasn’t surprised by the reaction (I saw the posts).

Conservative thinkers are looked upon with disdain from the left. Liberal thinkers (are dumb) are looked upon with disdain from the right. No partisans listen objectively to the other side.

We are loaded with partisans from each side. Few objective thinkers.

If you’re expecting either side too look upon the other side with admiration, you’re expecting a bit much.
