I’m getting the idea why so many people around here don’t want to own a computer at all.

My wife tells me the problem is “You’re using Windows and you need to use Linux.”

My understanding of Linux is you need even more innate knowledge to use that than Windows, because Linux documentation is even worse than Microsoft’s.

Of course, Microsoft offers no chat or telephone number or even address to send a letter to outlining your problems. You’re on your own.

That is a scary thought: I could not do my job (translating, proofreading and copywriting) without access to a computer.

Even my teaching work relies on accessing and downloading lessons and lesson plans/reports.

I use Apache office instead of Microsoft, which does lead to certain compatibility issues, but in general I can get around them.

But I would be right f***ed without a computer and high-speed Internet access. The only thing that slows me down is my crappy little $400 computer.
