Major blow to the Taliban, because now the whole world is going to want a piece of the action:

They have no history of environmental protection, or mining, or reliable governance. Also no real economy or infrastructure. Suddenly they wake up to natural resources that could give them a real economy and develop their country.

This is a chance of a real future if they can stop killing each other long enough.

Massive reserves of far easier to mine oil and gas haven’t been much of a blow to the Mullah regime in Iran, or Saddam’s Iraq, or Wahhabi Saudi Arabia.
