If you have only one or two holdouts then a retrial makes sense. If you’ve lost the clear majority of the jurors in a non violent case and decide to do it all over again then you’re just a massive fucking asshole.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that the decision rested not with Barr, but with Miller who in turn convinced Trump to make a retrial happen because they needed to “send a message.”
