It needs a whack upside the head (and more), and I hope the publicity over these things serves as that whack.

I don’t see much hope of the Church getting a clue. Churches in Europe sitting empty or being sold. In another 40 years or so the Catholic church will be like the old European aristocracy. Some of them keep their castles and have some money but they aren’t culturally of politically relevant.
