Charles, the word nuclear was actually pronounced nuc-u-lar during the inception of the US nuclear program. There were two camps and eventually, nu-cle-ar won out. But it was really just preference. It is likely he grew up (in Texas I can almost guarantee it) hearing it said that way. Did he understand its meaning and use it properly? Then why the constant harping on it? My mom still says she warshes her clothes in the zinc after all.

How in the world do you get “nucular” out of “nuclear?” Good grief.

I cringed every time I heard W mispronounce this easily pronounceable word.
