“Liberal” was attempted to be made into a dirty word a few decades ago, and as far as certain groups in this country I suppose it still is.

However, the “progressives” have made a concerted effort to not totally lose this fight… so they have been not only trying to redeem the word “liberal” but have proposed synonyms (e.g., “progressive”.)

So, to keep up the smear-wars, certain groups (“conservatives”?) now have to trot out the “Socialist” label to come up with a new dirty word.

That is what Greer’s message is all about.
