Actually, they’ll still get their checks. What won’t happen is that new applications for things like Medicare of SS won’t get processed. But the highly automated processes of sending out checks to already-enrolled recipients will probably proceed apace.

So it will only effect newer type things? I was actually wondering what is involved in a government shutdown, other than Congress gets extra, EXTRA, time off. Will teachers get paid? Police, fire? Or local isn’t effected?
