I saw him in the Jazz Tent at New Orleans Jazzfest. The place was completely full so I was actually sitting on the ground in front of the first row. I could basically touch the marimba. That was one of the moments in life where even those I was relatively young and stupid I took a pretty thorough mental snapshot and had a big, dumb smile on my face.

I knew just enough to know I wouldn’t find myself in too many positions like that in life. And the dichotomy of him barely being able to walk and simply playing his ass off was truly a sight to see.
