I agree but have you checked out Stadium Arcadium, their most recent album? It is the first album that they have made since 1991 that is worth listening to. Although still can't touch the '80s stuff. But some great tunes regardless.

The universe may be filled with Earth-like planets — worlds where extraterrestrials might flourish.
But these planets were once considered too small to spot, even with the latest in space technology.
Now, many astronomers believe NASA’s $600 million Kepler telescope, which is scheduled to shoot into space this week, will help to clear up the mystery.
. . .
Kepler, essentially a large light meter, does not photograph stars. It was designed to detect small changes in the brightness of a distant star when a planet as small as Mars makes a crossing, or transit.

Snoop Dogg has revealed he has joined the Nation of Islam after appearing at the religious group's annual Saviours' Day event in Chicago.
The rapper, who described himself as the "leader of the hip-hop community", told followers he would share what he learned with other musicians.
He told reporters that he joined the group because he was "doing what's right and representing what's right".

I had a bad day today. I could not stay indoors any longer. The bad part is whenever I leave the house, I spend money. I went to the video store, a consignment store and got a nifty sweater for $40 then to the art supply store to buy a sketch book $14. With economy tight I am staying away from the stores and nurturing my cheaper hobbies.
I am getting that feeling that I am coming down with my friend's cold. I ache all over. I wish mom were alive to read me a bedtime story and bring me warm milk.
Ps. I blew up that pic of Valerie Jarret and Michelle Obama in the White House kitchen. I heard they had a girls night. And I am sick of MO's arms.

New Islamic mortgages now available in Minnesota
Islamic law does make exceptions to the ban on interest, if one's family is at stake. But the exceptions are open to interpretation and for many observant Muslims, conventional mortgages are strictly taboo.
Nawawi Sheikh is one of them. The Somali-American says he and his wife just couldn't go against their beliefs, even if it meant giving up their dream of owning a home. Still, he grew tired of moving from one rented apartment to another.
. . ..
Here's how the mortgage, known as Murabaha financing or "cost plus sale," works:
The state buys a home and resells it to the buyer at a higher price. The down payment and monthly installments are agreed to up front at current mortgage rates.
The deal is identical to a thirty-year fixed-rate loan, except there's no additional interest, because the higher up front price factors in payments that would have been made over the life of a traditional mortgage.
In other words, they're paying interest, it's just not called interest.
/but, instead of calling them on the farce, we just bend over for Sharia law so they don't have to assimilate

Read closer "the State buys the house" so politics is involved, in theory they buy it at market and resell it at market plus the value of the interest but you and I know that once politicians get involved strange things happen. There will be pressure to lower the price paid by the favored sharia recipient and the prices paid by the state will either be inflated or if deflated to look good there will be other favors and costs extracted. Corruption opportunities on both ends of this deal with more bailouts needed as it goes broke.

Baking potatoes
cherries
watermelon
berries
avocados
pomegranates
asparagus
Do not get me started! I'm writing a library scene; if I get distracted talking about fruits and veg, my scene will have to wait for tomorrow night.
Actually, it might have to wait for tomorrow night anyway. My brain's turning to mush.
All berries are heavenly. I love apple varieties: pippins, pink ladies, granny smith, macintosh...melons can be wonderful, avocados ought to be regulated...you get my drift? Ooooh, and those amazing brown pears. Or the red ones....

Now we're talking! I had the privilege of seeing Lionel Hampton perform at the 2000 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. I was sitting front row, dead center. He had to be walked to the front of the stage by two people. It took him almost two minutes to get in place and then he proceeded to absolutely kick the place's ass.
Amazing day.

You know I have never been a fresh apple person. I love apple pie, and taffy apples but get me to eat one plain...never. We have a place in Chicago that makes the best taffy apples. The only thing is, he changes apples with the season. April-Sept, is granny smith which is IMHO the best for taffy apples. Oct-april, red delicious, which I hate as taffy apples.

We got my daughter a huge Tonka ladder truck. You can imagine her glee.
A year later, we took her to the nearby fire station to see the REAL engines. A firefighter was showing her (mommy & daddy too) around the ladder truck, when the kid asks ... "Wher th turner ting?"
Mom had to translate for the baffled firefighter. Her Tonka engine had a crank on the side, for extending the ladder. She didn't see one on the one in the firehouse.

Oh. Here:
Mystic
They call all experience of the senses mystic, when the experience is
considered.
So an apple becomes mystic when I taste in it
the summer and the snows, the wild welter of earth
and the insistence of the sun.All of which things I can surely taste in a good apple.
Though some apples taste preponderantly of water, wet and sour
and some of too much sun, brackish sweet
like lagoon water, that has been too much sunned. If I say I taste these things in an apple, I am called mystic, which
means a liar.
The only way to eat an apple is to hog it down like a pig
and taste nothing
that is real. But if I eat an apple, I like to eat it with all my senses awake.
Hogging it down I call the feeding of corpses.--D. H. Lawrence

It is my understanding that a 60% approval rating for this time period (a few weeks after taking office) isn't at all unusual; in fact, it might be a few points lower than some other recent presidents had soon after being inaugurated.

I'm not sure the plan is to allow it to come back. He's destroying the whole system long-term. It's hard to come up with an other explaination, he's not stupid. He and the rest of the political class will continue to party at our expense and make the rest of the electorate poor and dependent on government. There will be no money left to stop him. He can't borrow these deficits, Japan and China don't have the money. He'll print Obama bucks, and inflation will set in. He's harming not only the stock market but by reducing deductions he'll further harm the housing markets and charities so no one will have assets or any where to turn but Daddy Obama.
This is frightening.

Tomorrow I will head to the polls to vote on two measly, local issues. One is an increase in sales tax, a sales tax that was just last year lowered to compete with a neighboring city which has been getting the benefit of big ticket sales as a result of this difference in sales tax. The way the argument is being framed, I can't imagine my one measly vote will make a difference.
The other is for a seat on the local city council. The candidate I figure on backing is up against an incumbent who has worked with Habitat for Humanity, and whose father is a local pastor. Hard as it may be to believe, that whole "son of a preacher man" shtick carries weight 'round this part of Ca, so I don't imagine my one measly vote will make a difference on this either. BTW, the feller I plan on voting for is against increasing local taxes right now, he has this silly idea that raising taxes during an economic decline is a bad idea. Go figure.
Yeah. A couple of tiny, stupid things that my measly, single vote likely won't have any impact on. :sigh: I'm still going.

There is a huge difference between hoarding enough pain drugs to off ones' self, and having a doctor "help" you.
I can see where that goes. I've talked to some highly capable disabled people who are even clearer on it.
While I do not approve of suicide for any reason - which is a personal, and not a religious, prejudice - I understand it as personal choice when faced with unbearable pain. What I cannot accept, and will not accept, is the slippery slope that physician assisted suicide leads to.
I am well aware that most doctors or nurses or vets would not dream of forcing someone to suicide. That's not the point. The point is that there is a prejudice already against "meaningless lives", and a willingness to look the other way while they are ended. I find that more than unacceptable; I find it something to fight tooth and nail.

It is my understanding that a 60% approval rating for this time period (a few weeks after taking office) isn't at all unusual; in fact, it might be a few points lower than some other recent presidents had soon after being inaugurated.
Still higher than he should have, if you ask me.

Well I kinda look at it this way - Socialism has failed EVERY SINGLE PLACE IT'S BEEN TRIED. And it's never really been tried in a nation with the World's first true democracy, populated by folks who historically HATE being told what to do by the government. Oh yeah, there's lots of folks who get by on the public teat, but there the same the world over. Many, MANY more Americans are used to doing it themselves, thankew very much and I honestly think they'll come a time when they realize they've been sold an enormous bill of goods and then all hell is gonna break out - and it ain't gonna take one generation's worth to do it, either. And it won't be pretty, either.

There is little in my opinion that is more disgusting than listening medical professionals discussing "quality of life" at a "bioethics" forum. There definitely is a prejudice against "meaningless lives" as you put it. It seems to me the slippery slope (especially if we get stuck with CommieCare™) towards doctors or government busy-bodies deciding who is worth living and who is not is obvious and not that far off. I was really put off by both sides of the Schiavo case. Even though it was different as she was basically brain dead, and not an elderly person with a chronic illness, she still was incapable of making a life-ending decision for herself and it had to made by others. I'm very worried about how this precedent can be twisted or spun and used to justify euthanasia at some point down the road even when the patient can say "no". (I was throughly annoyed with Congressional meddling and Sean Hannity's shenanigans as well though).

In the three months since the election, the broadest measure of the stock market's value, the Wilshire 5000 Index, has plunged more than 30%, slicing over $3 trillion from Americans' wealth. Investors have walked away from investing, while businesses shut down factories and offices and slash jobs.
This is both highly significant and dangerous. Capital, bluntly put, has gone on strike. Those who own wealth are pushing it to the sidelines, as a young and inexperienced president tries to jam through the most sweeping economic changes in over 70 years.
The prospect of these changes becoming law has already radically altered our nation's economy. Entrepreneurs and CEOs who once created new products, new services, jobs and trillions in wealth for America's workers and retirees now find themselves vilified and punished for their success.
ABC News reported this week that many upper-income taxpayers already are planning to cut back on work and investments to stay under $250,000 in income — the point where Obama's punitive taxes kick in. No one wins from this, yet Obama seems oblivious.
/as usual, IBD nails it, will Obama be too proud, at the nation's expense, to back off his ill timed, harmful agenda?

Benny Goodman Orchestra, with Gene Krupa and Harry James
Sing, Sing, Sing
This was filmed for a movie, hence the visual "orchestration"./Music speaks for itself.

I'm showing my age, all right, but in the other direction. I thought you were talking about the Academy Award-nominated director who did this groundbreaking video, among many other things.
Whew. For a second there I thought I'd gone over the hill without the pleasure of noticing the view.

There's a recording out there of the 2nd (I think it was the second) Goodman concert at Carnegie Hall. I forget the year. It's on CD now.
It was recorded by a single mike over the stage, with the cable looped across the street to the recording machine. Surprisingly, the sound is excellent. The recording was thought "lost" for a number of years, until one of Goodman's grandkids pulled some old records out of a closet ....
It has some fantastic, and historic, stuff on it. IIRC, a matter of weeks later, Harry James left the orchestra to go out on his own, so this was his last appearance with BG. Some of Ellington's guys sit in (including Cootie Williams, I think.) Et cetera, et cetera.
