re: #143 goddamnedfrank

Millennials and Boomers have a lot in common in terms of hedonistic self centered bullshit. The difference is Boomers really did have the world handed to them on a silver platter only to overwhelmingly chose to forget and then shit all over the ideals they espoused in their youth.
….

Calling BS on this overly broad statement. (Very politely, cuz that’s me.) The silver platter included institutionalized racism and sexism. My early childhood included being expected to conform with the Father Knows Best and Donna Reed Show philosophies of Life. At the same time, my school was rocked by desegregation. Parents of playmates met the school buses with shouts of horrible things at the Black children. The parents scared me, but the courage of my new classmates inspired me. All the while, my dreams of having a career were met with laughter from adults who told me my role was to marry, tend a household and have babies.

As soon as I turned 18, I began working on civil rights projects. Still am. I may have to retire soon, but then I’ll be a volunteer with the ACLU.

I’m not alone. I have friends from many decades ago who are still on the frontlines. And at work I meet with high school and college students who are continuing the march towards a more inclusive society.
