I’m not alone. I have friends from many decades ago who are still on the frontlines. And at work I meet with high school and college students who are continuing the march towards a more inclusive society.

I grew up in Gary, Indiana, in the 60’s. Born into a white neighborhood that turned black and Latino over the course of the decade.
My mom was a widower who was cheated out of her pension by US Steel (decades later, she received some compensation as part of a class action suit) but as a result, we could not afford to flee to the white suburbs with the rest.

So I grew up a minority, and as such, have little or no tolerance for the views of bigots and “racial realists” who grew up in all-white towns or neighborhoods.
