I find it bad enough that Trump had any reasonable chance of getting re-elected. And although a sound economy & low unemployment would favor him, he is losing those advantages as we speak.

Favor but not guarantee. I really think you’ve overestimated Trump’s actual political strength compared to that an incumbent with those numbers in general. Who knows where we are it Coronavirus doesn’t happen but Trump was always imo going to have his shitty leadership skills tested and he was always going to fail no matter how hard his allies spin.
