I think I’ve mentioned before that my father never cared for Ike, because of his unwillingness to call out Taillgunner Joe. Of course, this is a retrospective opinion, as my dad was 10 and living in another country when Ike left office.

Like my old man (two years a Marine in the Korean Conflict, 25 years an Air Force NCO) always said about Ike — during WWII, a genius; during his presidency, not so bright.
