My mother gave me Simone De Beauvoir(sp?) book “The Second Sex” when I was about 13. I couldn’t finish it. All I remember is that she went on and on about how much she hated having a period. She was Jean Paul Sarte’s girlfriend. They were a real fun couple.

The flip side of “women who have a career are happier” is that women who are stay at home moms are considered second-class citizens. I remember prominent feminists (like Gloria Steinem) ripping stay-at-home moms as being lower than prostitutes.

People seem to have a problem letting other people find the solution that is right for their own families, one that fits their personalities, goals, wishes and situation.
