While I agree with the sentiment, we don’t tax based on wealth, but on income. Wealth gets taxed when you check out of this mortal coil(ostensibly, unless you have very good tax attorneys).

And that income is not taxed equitably. The non earned income is not taxed as income from work. So they get the wealth without having to cover the taxes that a working person would have to pay for that same income. Because they wrote the law to make it that way.
