And is that any different than the past? Really. How many movie “franchises” did we have in the past. Abbot and Costello, The Marx Brothers, Olsen and Johnson, Laurel and Hardy, The Universal monster movies, Francis the Talking Mule, Blondie and Dagwood movies, and many of these moved on to TV (and started on radio).

And even before that, Sherlock Holmes books and of course, many book series, the Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew and I could go on and on.

No, I don’t see anything new about the way the entertainment business markets their product, the foundational idea haven’t changed much for 75 years.

Alas, perhaps you are right. I was born in 1953, yet was steeped in WWII culture (through my parents) and, to a certain extent that era still shapes what I think today.

Generation cast long shadws, I would suppose.
