GGT was also saying last night that she thinks the Wal-Mart store layouts are inherently less manageable in a situation like this.

That’s exactly the problem. Walmart is seriously goddamned frustrating. I tend to only go there for a few thing, like t-shirts, fishing line and ammunition, but walking to the back of the store to reach the outdoors section without a cart is seriously irritating. The aisles are narrow, even the main pathways are often clogged with pallets of goods on special. People with carts or children have to be on their game to avoid jamming shit up and making whole areas inaccessible.

The trick to surviving Walmart with one’s sanity intact is to just not give a rat’s ass about time efficiency or random rudeness. My Dad who is normally very easily annoyed and loves registering his old man’s displeasure in everything to complete strangers can deal with it there because he’s retired, has nothing else to do and likes spending lots of time looking at prices. Also he’s oblivious to pedestrians in all situations (scary) so the fact that he’s causing backups and then randomly cutting people off doesn’t even register. If you’re the kind of person who conscientiously and scrupulously gives a shit about courtesy while trying to get shit done then Walmart can be hell.
