re: #202 O say, does that Star Spangled Banner yet wave..

It’s particularly challenging on this side of the pond, where the people most affected by lack of access to quality tubeage are also the ones that are hardest to reach - the vast expanse of America’s rural areas make it very expensive to provide high-availability, high-quality service. The same logistical challenges apply to any other service, such as the aforementioned health care. Infrastructure development for these sorts of projects should be an immediate priority, but who wants to pay taxes for more/better roads and national transportation mechanisms?

I’m awake.

Particularly who wants to pay high taxes to support rural areas when you hear constantly “what about those moocher red states?” No one in New York or California wants to pay for infrastructure here (and my state has a net loss on federal income).

That also fits with the complaints of high costs in areas like San Francisco or New York for housing: They ain’t making more land. Folks in those places like their perks like parks and zoos.

When folks in those places talk about making low income housing (not a reality as long as land costs so much), no one talks about building it on Central Park or where the San Francisco Zoo currently are (land which is not used for housing).
