My friend says the same things about how churches and private organizations should be a safety net.

Never mind that these organizations never go out and help minority communities. I learned that in Colorado Springs. A city of 500k+ took in less than 100 Internally Displaced Persons from Hurricane Katrina.

Colorado Springs is a wingnut city, so they’re not the help-the-poor kind of Christian. They’re more the hate-everyone-outside-the-cult kind. You can’t judge how much Christians help the poor based on those assholes.
