Numbers are not at hand, but it’s quite possible that the rural areas around Charlotte have a higher murder rate than NYC. I won that one with my wife a few years ago, re our small AL town.

When I showed her the stats that NYC is the safest big city in the country, she went very silent. She doesn’t like that whenever she goes off on an “Obama is the devil” rant, I simply laugh at her and tell her there are wonderful medications for paranoia these days.
