You could always pick a responsible mate with a CCL etc… Like someone in or ex law enforcement or someone who’s carried their whole adult lives etc. Mindset plus ability to defend in dealing with violence or threat of violence is often the difference in that sort of thing. Won’t stop you from being in the crosshairs or random shot in the back etc but could help stop a kidnapping attempt/buy time for more heavily armed responders etc.

Barring that get a door bar and window locks to make it harder and noisier to get into your place so you can have some tiny shred of warning and buy time etc.

Oh-and while it might not save you outright a loving pupster might give you adequate warning when you can’t them breaking in/sneaking up etc…
