Next: workers are required to take jobs considered traditional for their gender. Oooops, I said ‘their’.

I’ve always dressed like a bike mechanic. I had no role models, so I was one.

I lied. The first shop I worked at was run by two women, who hired me because I was a woman. I was so good, I was suspected of cheating while I was being trained. It was supposedly a ‘collective’, but these two women ran it. Two men worked there, also. Later, the brother of one of the women was hired. When they had a meeting without telling me, at which they ‘laid me off’, I forget how I did it, but I made them change their registration with the state, to reflect the absence of ‘collective’.

I don’t think I dressed like either of those women. I dressed as I have since high school. More like the men. Jeans and a t-shirt.
