Exactly and I just wish more gun advocates would be honest about that. Listen, if you want a gun to protect your family. I completely understand. You like hunting? Ditto that. Like target shooting? Ditto. Feel paranoid about the government coming to get you? I’ll even grant you that as long as you don’t get in the way of my right to live peacefully.

There is another argument that gets floated after every mass murder, namely that if someone had been there with a gun, they could’ve prevented it.

Guns are not a magic talisman. If you want to use one to defend yourself in your home, then that is your choice, but unless you are highly trained and experienced, have nerves of steel and an incredibly sound sense of judgement, pulling one in public to stop a shooter is not necessarily going to help, in fact it could easily make things worse.
