re: #131 Targetpractice, Worst of Both Worlds

Thing is, I don’t see the sort of moderating personality in Romney that Bush had in the day, so a Tea Party/Republican Congress might be crazy enough to make a bid at abolishing the filibuster, or at least effectively neutering it.

l don’t think there’s really much that a GOTP congress can do, unless they get to the magical number of 60 in the Senate. The true height of hypocrisy would be the gop abolishing the filibuster after using it more times over the last 3 years than ever before in our history. At that point, you can’t even make a consistent argument, no matter how hard you spin. Your only defense of abolishing the filibuster would be “we’re doing it to save the country” or some b.s. like that. Otherwise, just IOKIYAR.

Romney showed a lot of willingness to moderate and compromise with the heavily Dem MA Legislature. Of course that was a lifetime ago and a million miles ideologically/culturally from the fanatics he’ll be dealing with in this Congress.
