I listened to an audio of Beck recently - the caller was involved with the Rhode Island Tea Party group that was banned from a yearly 4th of July parade. He sounded ok/normal.

How much of the on-air theatrics is for ratings?

I accidently flipped by once and he was looking at the camera like a two year old kid who was going to break into sobs. I left quickly.
