My son was born with cancer. A cashier asked what was wrong with him and I told her. Her response was, “Did you ever think his illness is a punishment from God for being an unwed mother?” I think she was being honest and really didn’t see how hurtful her remark was, but I didn’t want to hang out with her any more.

I’m impressed that you stopped at not wanting to hang out with her any more. I might have punched her.
