This has occurred to me too, that the Miranda incident may have been set up from the start to make a splash in the media. At the height of the controversy, when you know Western intel services are going to be watching everything you do, you send a newbie to carry secret documents through one of the most-watched airports in the world?

Seems like a crazy idea … unless you intend for him to get caught, so you can exploit the resulting media coverage and paint Miranda and Greenwald as victims.

I consider it a bit too coincidental that the data Miranda was reportedly carrying him on that data was primarily, if not totally, documentation concerning UK classified programs and operations. One would think he was trying to provoke a particular reaction from them, perhaps a similar response to what we’ve seen from other nations, outrage that the NSA had data on their allies own secrets.
