Noob question: how do timeouts work? Are you unable to log in for a certain period of time?

24 hours locked out of site. Two timeouts is the max. You get banned after getting two.

Some people (generally trolls, not regular posters) get banned on one post when it’s sufficiently horrible.

The timeout mechanism was established last summer, and the point of it was (i believe) to give regular posters a cooling off period if we get involved in fights, have a bad day, or are otherwise acting like an infant throwing a tantrum.

I think it’s pretty smart and extremely useful.
