If we divide our lives into segments of, say, five years - and if we’re completely honest with ourselves - then each five-year segment probably begins with the realization of how unbelievably stupid we were five years ago. Ergo, life consists of progressively more depressing self-awareness. Unless you have no self-awareness at all, in which case you’re probably a politician.
