re: #249 wheat-dogghazi-mailgate

I used to have a Firefox plugin that allowed me to control which sites loaded when I opened a webpage. For example, when I load LGF, it links to Facebook, Twitter, Google and YouTube as the page loads. On my old computer and using FF, the page would just hang indefinitely, because China blocks all those services. The plugin, whose name I’ve forgotten, allowed me to “turn off” linking to those sites, and the page would load a lot more quickly.

Now, I don’t have that problem. New computer, Opera, and a faster network connection means I seldom have slow page loads like before.

I’m still using an old HP laptop running Win7. Probably a few Java versions behind as well. Problem with the current run of bloatware is that things reached the point on this machine that I have trouble running more than one piece of software (browser, Itunes, etc) at a time since they all want more than one-third of the memory. And given the machine I would be better off getting a new box than adding more memory.

Maybe I will just do that post-taxes. And just keep this one for handling photos, game work, etc. where I don’t need much net access.
