re: #245 iceweasel

I think it’s possible to make a pro-perp walk argument, in the interest of transparency. We don’t whisk people off the street and no one knows what happened to them. It’s all open and you know they’re booked say at precinct 19, housed at Rikers’, etc.

re: #247 RogueOne

My nephew (from saudi) makes that comparison all the time. He told me that’s what frequently happens in Riyadh. A black car pulls up, a bunch of guys jump out and grab someone, and then they don’t see or hear from them for a long time if at all. Sometimes our system sucks but it could always be worse.

Very good points. I am reading that the more level-headed French criticism (i.e., people not named Bernard) is centered on the fact that the US-style perp walk has the effect (deliberately or not) of making the accused look guilty.

This is a far smaller problem than disappearing people off the street, obviously, but still a problem.
