Communications technology is not going to go away, and it is not going to bring tyranny to America. Electing candidates who lack the intelligence and moral direction to use technology properly will.

We cannot uninvent the NSA. We can vote to control it, and even then we will never know for certain that it is effectively controlled. That’s the price of Netflix On Demand and a lot of Twitter followers.

AFAIK our traditional protections apply well to new technologies. Probable cause. Relevance to an investigation. Nothing without a warrant and or probable cause. These protections should be assumed to apply up front rather than applied and let the courts stop an agency years later.

Unfortunately my poll on whether domestic metadata collection that is not related to an investigation drew far too few votes to cite. I am firmly in the camp that the relevance standard is an essential protection moving forward.
