Best guess? “If it’s ‘free,’ then there’s obviously something wrong it. If it worked, then they would be charging for it!” The idea is to play on people’s distrust of anything advertised as “free,” that there’s usually some hidden “catch” that secretly jacks up the price.
Or that it is part of a secret government/Soros plot to get us all hooked…
