We are no where near close enough to containing the spread in the US. We’re on the Italy trend line, and Italy just locked down the entire country in an attempt to curb the spread.

Good point, but I’d take issue a bit with the following:

They were at 600 cases just a week or so ago. We’re just past 600 cases as of last night.

Our population is something over 5x Italy’s, so we need to reach 3000 to get where Italy was when it was at 600.

That said, it may well happen in a week or two.
