Yes, it’s less doable now in the economic sense (I had the GI Bill). The physical bit is possible if you don’t like sleep. I used to dictate my homework to my wife while she drove me to work/school and she would type gobs of it up for me. My usual weird job on the assembly line was stop-and-go, so I could do a lot there.

So basically (and this is not to pick holes with you but more to illustrate the absurdity of this guy’s original manifesto):

40 years ago, it was possible to get through school without incurring debt if you had a supportive family, a government-funded support program, a job that allowed you to fit in schoolwork during hours you were nominally being paid to do something else, and the ability to function on reduced sleep for long stretches of the year.
