re: #265 Dark_Falcon

I don’t really see the things as the same. Using the debt ceiling was defensible as a political tactic, and further it was an attempt to rein in spending perceived as out of control by Republicans. It was an attempt to solve a real political problem.

How come Republicans never complained about the debt when Bush got us into two wars, didn’t pay for them and kept them off the official budget? It only became a political problem when a Democratic president put them on the books and tried to clean up the economic disaster caused by financial deregulation. Deny it all you want, there’s a reason that no Canadian banks collapsed. There’s such a thing as inconsistent hypocrisy so extreme that it is simply lying. You don’t see things the same because you don’t want to, simply out of tribalism. I’d like to see you attempt some internally consistent logic, to supply some evidence for your positions. Instead all I hear are rehashed talking points and raw, unsupported assertion.

Limbaugh was far worse than anything done in Congress.

Not really, the impact of the actions taken by the Republicans in the Senate is demonstrably far more damaging. The S&P didn’t single out Rush Limbaugh as the reason for reformulating their economic forecast of US debt, they did however specifically cite the intransigence of congressional Republicans against raising taxes.
