The insurance companies will jack up premiums and deductibles and sell bare bones catastrophic plans. The protection of people with preexisting conditions will only remain in effect if they maintain “continuous coverage”, so that if their coverage lapses for any reason they can be refused a new policy.

If the pre-existing condition component is kept, then they couldn’t deny you coverage for a lapse nor could they make your rates different. That’s the entire point of that component.

Now, there is enforcing that that comes into play.
