What got me into it initially was PETA. I saw a brochure of the slaughter houses. Years later and while I was still a veghead, I learned that those disgusting, mutilated pictures were of non-US slaughter houses, mostly in South and Central America. I had been duped by PETA. This was back in the 80’s way before the proliferation of the internet.

I want to say they have a good point because in the sense of animal rights and treatment they do, but I guess they don’t really believe in it or they wouldn’t have to lie so much about it.

My late grandmother used to send money to PETA because they were ‘really hard core’ about animal rights.

There was no arguing with my grandma when it came to animals, so no one did, although I think my aunt tried hard to convince her that the SPCA was just as good.
