Not sure they’re a bust, just that they’re not yet replacements for all purpose automobiles. They’re fine for limited purposes.

If batteries get the boost in energy density getting kicked around (3 to 10 times current density) in some testbed projects, that’ll change. But for now, the advantage gasoline holds in energy density makes it the winner.
