re: #213 MandyManners

My take is that it is scientific.

I think its a bit of both. Science and its use to change public opinion. Could it be that the age of puberty is going down in direct inverse proportion to the amount of audio and visual sexuality kids are exposed to? MTV, Hollywood, the music industry have been quite actively pushing sex to a younger and younger crowd. Little girls were singing Barbie Girl (look at the lyrics) and It’s Getting Hot in Here, So Take Off All Your Clothes (ditto). That was almost 10 years ago, IIRC. What are they pushing today? I have no idea. I haven’t listened to any new pop music in a long time. Same with films…movies geared towards kids have sexual innuendo and worse. American Pie 1,2,3,4 rented by the older kids, watched by the younger kids.

It is what they want. Its not just the profit motive (although, for Islam, it is the prophet motive.)

The press-hyped stories following these research studies, which may indeed have been done for altruistic purpose, seem to have a tone to them which is a “push”. I don’t know how to explain, sometimes, trends that I see in the “science press”, but the phrase “cultural brainwashing” comes to mind.
