Also, there’s a chance Rouhani will cut Assad loose, because he’s playing for world opinion as “not your father’s Iranian regime” and the chemical weapons are an embarassing glitch in that plan. (and it’s not like publicly disavowing Assad and allowing him to fall would make a hair’s bit of difference in Iran’s relations with their actual Syrian proxy Hezbollah)…
