So I take it that if you want to shut down all travel to and from Mexico, then you won’t mind if all the other nations in the world do likewise to travel to and from the US? (After all, we have the second largest number of infected.)

If we don’t shut the border, that’s exactly what will happen. The EU already made some noise about issuing a travel warning for Mexico and the United States.

It’s either keep the border open in some sort of insane PC gesture, or lose tourism and business travel.
