Some of our army elements used “The Battle of Algiers” as a familiarization tool during the run-up to Iraq. The novels of Jean Lartiguy also sold briskly.

An interesting question of history is what would have happen had General Challe been allowed to go ahead with Operation Trident. He might have been able to wreck the insurgents badly enough to end them as a mid-term threat.
